Byron Tyson is a qualified chartered quantity surveyor and a CEDR accredited civil & commercial mediator. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and holds an LLM in Construction Law Adjudication and Arbitration.
Byron has 20 years’ experience in the construction industry and has significant professional experience of construction disputes and has led over 40 adjudications.
He began his professional career in 2004 as a quantity surveyor at his family construction business; a regional main contractor based in the Lake District and has managed a variety of new build and refurbishment projects, under a range of contract types for public sector and commercial clients across Cumbria and Lancashire.
In 2011 Byron joined a construction consultancy specialising in dispute resolution and has worked as a commercial consultant in the United Kingdom and internationally preparing claims across all major construction sectors. He has also acted as representative in Adjudication proceedings for employers, multinational contractors, UK contractors and subcontractors.
Byron has worked closely with specialist legal, quantum and delay analysis partners gaining experience from industry leading professionals. He was appointed commercial director in 2016 and now advises clients on commercial strategy, contracts, procurement and dispute resolution, in particular mediation and adjudication.
On a personal front, Byron lives in Cumbria with his wife and young family and has recently embarked on an ambitious project to renovate an 18th century Cumbrian farmhouse. Longer term he aims to develop the accompanying smallholding to self-sufficiency.
