Helen Johnson

Helen Johnson is a CEDR accredited civil & commercial mediator and a practising barrister in Ireland. Over the past 15 years she has established a highly successful general legal practice with a specialism in intellectual property law, where she advises on both contentious and non-contentious matters. Her IP practice experience includes advising university spin-outs, high-potential start-ups, biomedical companies, technology companies, travel companies, luxury brands, cosmetic industries, food and beverage industries, retail, online and e-commerce businesses, artists, authors, designers and musicians. She also prosecutes trade mark and design applications at the Irish IP Office and the EUIPO and she acts in IP enforcement matters before the Irish courts.
Helen is an experienced decision-maker, having served for two terms on the Board of Appeal at the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. She has also been a Member of the International Protection Appeals Tribunal in Dublin, Ireland which determines appeals of asylum applications.
Helen is passionate about diversity in the legal sector as well as the development of legal education. She has designed and lectured on a number of courses, including at the Law Society of Ireland. She was one of the founding co-designers of an online Diploma course, entitled Education and the Law, for St. Angela’s College, Sligo (then under the auspices of the National University of Ireland, Galway) which was the first course of its kind in Ireland at that time.
