On Monday 12th May, the Director of The Mediation Specialists, Sheila Gooderham, gave two presentations to the British Virgin Islands Bar Association and stakeholders at the BVI International Arbitration Centre, Road Town, Tortola. Ann Allen Encontre, who is a member of The Mediation Specialists, is a lawyer mediator and former Registrar of the Supreme Court of the BVI.
The first presentation introduced mediation as a dispute resolution process and addressed new developments in the Civil Procedure Rules in England & Wales and the BVI concerning integrating alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in to the court process. The second presentation provided an overview of the ‘Science of Conflict’ and how understanding the brain can assist conflict resolution specialists to open opportunities for insight and management of conflict and its resolution. Sheila was faced with some excellent questions from attendees and it was a pleasure to present to the BVI Bar Association members and share professional perspectives and understanding. Special thanks go to Scott Tolliss, the President of the BVI Bar Association, for making this event happen.
